Although my surname Blüh [Bloo] lends itself easily to awkward mispronunciations I’ve grown to appreciate it more than ever as it’s meaning; to blossom, flourish and thrive embodies the heart of our brand. It’s through the power of alchemy that nature's lush bounty is harnessed and transformed into liquid gold otherwise known as BLÜH ALCHEMY, ADVANCED BIOACTIVE SOLUTIONS.
My journey into the world of skin care formulation began in 2011 after my daughter was diagnosed with a rare and life threatening disease called Wegener’s Granulomatosis. The disease in her case was rapid and severe. The damage caused lesions and granulomas throughout her airways leaving her with half her lung capacity within the first week of symptoms. After coming off life support her treatment involved rounds of chemotherapy and a cocktail of aggressive drugs that left her skin very dry and sensitive to the touch.
I grew up in a small hill town in Western Massachusetts. My father was an avid naturalist, seasonally planting vibrant gardens overflowing with robust vegetables, healing herbs and stunning flowers. As a young child my father instilled in me a deep appreciation for nature and wildlife, he often took me and my siblings on foraging adventures to gather all the wild edibles we could find.
When my daughter got sick my instinct was to go back to my roots and begin to craft simple soothing balms from nourishing oils infused with the healing herbs we grew in our garden. I had always been aware of the importance of eating a clean, nutrient rich diet and had been diligent about feeding her the healthiest choices available. What I was less aware of is the plethora of toxic ingredients disguised as safe options found in the body care products we used on a daily basis. The concept of “Green Washing” was new to me. Until I received my daughter’s shocking diagnosis I had no idea how aggressive and life threatening autoimmune diseases could be. Sadly, as is often the case when something effects you personally you become more acutely aware. We quickly learned that autoimmune diseases are on the rise and in many cases very little is known about their cause or how to effectively treat them. Rare diseases aren’t often at the top of the list to receive funding for extensive research. Although the cause of her disease is unknown we began to learn more about possible triggers and the impact chemicals and environmental toxins can have on the body. I knew that in her fragile state I had to keep the formulas simple and pure, utilizing the most gentle, healing herbs and nourishing oils to help sooth her tender skin. Witnessing the transformative power of plants was both a relief and incredibly inspiring. This ignited a passion and an unstoppable drive in me to advance my skills as a formulator and my understanding of the skin's physiology. I began my formal education in cosmetic chemistry and worked closely with top natural chemists to develop a carefully edited line of skin care products that target the signs of pre-mature aging while protecting against environmental aggressors and oxidative stress. The result is BLÜH ALCHEMY, ADVANCED BIOACTIVE SOLUTIONS, delivering unparalleled results with uncompromising quality.
